Driven here from the UK too. Note the fast number..
Edit: it was actually imported by a dealer and is awaiting local plates.

Is that really a badge advertising an overdrive gear? And here I thought 90's ABS badging was as silly as it gets.

Not an overdrive gear, but a separate Laycock overdrive unit behind the transmission, with a switch on the steering column

I’ve seen quite a few cars from the 1970s, early 1980s with overdrive badges on. Never thought anything of it really other than they had overdrive fitted later in the cars life or paid extra when it was new.

T he 164 was coming from a world of 2 and 3 speed Autos w/o overdrive

I’m pretty sure the “Eddie Bauer” edition Ford Explorer takes the cake for odd badging.

The ESC Electronic Spark Control badges on 80s GM trucks was as silly as it gets.

Yes. You could also have had badges advertising injection, automatic, six speed, power steering, ABS and air conditioning, although not at the same time and on the same car!

Or in this case a switch on the gear knob.

Ford even had badges that read “5 speed” on cars like the Escort and Lynx.
I always figured GM’s huge “ 6.2 LITRE DIESEL” badge on the tailgate was there to let the person behind know it's going to be a while before you get up to speed.

Don’t think we ever had the five speed badges but we certainly got "automatic" ones. Not a common sight though!

Ha rdly something to brag about.

(I’ll let you in on a secret: my car is 30 years newer than that volvo and it doesn’t have an overdrive)

I don’t know. I’ve heard it changes the cars gearing and acceleration for the better, making long drives more tolerable and marginally more economical .
Never driven one so I can’t vouch for it myself but many British classic car owners like it.

Well not an overdrive switch at least. Depending on vechicle and transmission, 4-10 gears (your top, crusing gear) would be the default overdrive gear.

No, I mean really I don’t have an overdrive. My top gear is 1:1 direct drive.

I remember an OldsmoBuick from the 80’s with a badge: 4 speed automatic.
